the dirty truth podcast
One thing that I have learned as a sex educator is that there is some amazing content on social media platforms from sex educators who are doing the work. However, it is important to remember that the majority of us are first exposed to sex education in our schools.
My experience of standardized sex education is one of the biggest reasons why I wanted to become a sexuality professional. I know that resonates with a lot of other educators in the field. So that is why this podcast exists. So all of this information can be in one place, and so that we can look at this information a little bit more in depth and possibly make a change about what standardized sex education looks like.
SEX EDUCATION IN AMERICA
The United States does not have a nationally mandated sex education cirriculum in public schools. No state is legally required to teach sex education by federal law, however each state is allowed to come up with their own laws on if/what kind/how sex education is taught. Out of the 50 states, only 24 of those states REQUIRE sex education be taught in public schools. This podcast goes over some of the basic models of sex education curriculums that are offered and gives you some insight on how each state goes about enforcing their curriculum.
